Some Do’s and Don’ts of Corporate Casual Dressing

The term corporate casual attire has been the most misunderstood and misconstrued term with regard to corporate apparels and casual work wear. There have been instances when employees have taken the ‘casual’ aspect of the dressing a little too far and hence have ended up looking unprofessional and unkempt.
There are some do’s and don’ts which are important to be kept in mind with regard to corporate casual dressing. Jeans as well as casual chino pants are okay with men who want to dress casual to work but they should steer clear of torn and ripped denims as well as gym wear. If you want to look cool as well as professional, try wearing vests over shirts but do make an effort not to look unkempt. Buttoned down, short sleeved shirts in checks work well with denim or jeans look good but sleeveless shirts are a strict no-no as work clothing. If you are too bored of jackets, try sweaters in nice muted colors. Polo shirts are also gaining popularity with many corporate houses. Men and women should both also steer clear of pants that reveal the navel and low-waist jeans which are okay if you are hanging out with friends, but not to work!
Women should avoid see-through clothing, very short dresses or skirts, shorts and very low necklines. Dresses, leggings, tights, jeans, chinos and sweaters are all reasonably good if you want to look chic yet casual at work.
Last but not the least, avoid flip-flops and thongs to work. Instead choose sandals or athletic footwear which is not worn out and looks decent. The key is in looking smart and casual, yet very professional.
